Due to the abundance of karts features including caves, its
wide distribution and its specificity, the karst area of
Croatia as part of Dinaric karst has been described in
world literature as the world’s typical karst region. As
well as being a source of drinking water, the karst
underground of Croatia is regarded (considered) as a
place of special importance due to other natural values.
Ogulin Region displays a rich and complex hydrological
network with especially valuable underground, which
does not only abound in speleological, biospeleological
and geomorphological peculiarities, but also hides
numerous paleontological, archaeological, and historical
discoveries.
This publication’s goal is to present the results of
interdisciplinary speleological and biospeleological
explorations of the flooded caves of the Ogulin Region
which have been conducted over many years. There are
many caves, pits, springs and ponors to be found in the
Ogulin Region, however the authors have chosen to focus
solely on those in which they themselves participated in
the exploration. The authors felt the urge to tell the story
of each cave in an interesting and simple way, with the
desire that the reader also enjoys leafing through this
book with its various photographs, charts and drawings.
